The Omron is a favourite for the no nonsense features-measuring heart rate with its chest strap and transmitting the data to a wrist mounted watch display. Watch I have used way too many running watches/HR monitors/foot pods, etc. The watch has a touch sensitive bezel around the screen's edge with which the user controls its functions. The GPS watch can be used to navigate on the fly. A GPS watch utilizes 27 satellites and an extensive network of specially designed computers in order for it to calculate the precise location of its user. The Garmin Forerunner is specifically great for beginners to heart rate monitoring and also offers you the ability to monitor distance with its foot pod, to interval train, to save and download your workouts onto your computer (which is very easy to use). Also the import of gpx files and the info from my Garmin Forerunner is working like a breeze. The Garmin Forerunner is also water resistant so it will still function in the rain. Unfortunately my Garmin Forerunner is not able to display more than one course at a time but it might be useful in other cases. The Garmin Forerunner is a pretty incredible gadget.
